Job Description**

BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, is hiring two Rocket Development Engineers for our R&D team at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. The Rocket Research and Development Team is looking for motivated and engaged design engineers to develop new solid rocket motor propulsion systems. Rocket Development Engineers will be involved in the design, analysis, build, and test of rocket motors for aerospace and defense applications. Working with a team of like-minded and similarly focused scientists, technicians and engineers, the Rocket Development Engineer will lead development programs as well as provide design and analysis support. Typical activities may include:

+ Motor/Grain/Nozzle Sizing and Performance Estimation

+ Mechanical Motor Component Design

+ Case Design

+ Grain Design

+ Nozzle Design

+ Test Equipment Selection and Implementation

+ Performance Prediction

+ Optimization Analysis

+ Computer-Aided Analyses (Fluid, Thermal, Structural or other)

+ Risk Assessment

+ Technical Presentation

**Typical Education & Experience**

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 4 years work experience or equivalent experience

**Required Skills and Education**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Related Scientific/Mathematical Field

+ Two Year's Experience in Design of Aerospace Systems or Related Fields

+ Experience with CAD Software (i.e. Autodesk, Solidworks, Pro-Engineer etc.)

+ Able to think critically and work creatively

+ Good understanding of thermodynamics and/or fluid dynamics

**Preferred Skills and Education**

+ Five Year's Experience in Design of Aerospace Systems or Related Fields

+ Experience with Solidworks

+ Experience with modeFrontier, DAKOTA, or similar optimization tools

+ Experience in Creating and Interpreting Engineering Drawings

+ Proficient in MATLAB (or Octave)

+ Experience with Star-CCM

+ Working Knowledge of Composite Materials and Structures (Especially Pressure Vessels)

+ Object Oriented Programming Experience (C , Java etc.)

+ Proficient in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis, Thermal Analysis, and/or Finite Element Structural Analysis (Solidworks, ANSYS, ABAQUS etc.)
